WE ARE A PUB THEATRE in the heart of Hamburg, founded in 2003 by actor and director Rebecca Garron. We provide native-speaking actors and directors resident in Hamburg an opportunity to work professionally in their native language and to introduce the German public to significant contemporary playwrights writing in English. For information about our team, go to Who We Are. We produce two English-language plays a year. We have staged Irish, English and American plays, comedies and dramas, naturalistic and absurdist works, and one-person shows.
IN 2006, THE ROVER REP THEATRE LAUNCHED a regular reading series. We had a trial run with a reading of Bernard Shaw's short plays to celebrate his 150th birthday. We then participated in 'Beckett in Town', a Hamburg-wide Beckett festival, with readings of two of Beckett's radio plays. Attendance and feedback to both of these productions encouraged us to make Sunday matinee readings a regular event. R3's goals are to broaden our repertoire of English-language plays and to provide as many English-language actors in Hamburg as possible with ongoing opportunities to work in their native language. Artistic Director of The Rover Rep Readings is Canadian actor and dramaturg Elena Kaufman.
